The brief for this project was for a commercial space for rental to sit alongside our clients other business.
Affectionately referred to as the ‘Butchers Pod’ because the main space is currently being used by a local butcher. The second space is currently used as storage for the Pod but will soon be cleared and open to another rental opportunity.
This space was created with high functionality in mind due to the elements required for the Butchers Pod complete with transparent customer facing space and galley style serving area. Our client also had additional requirements for this space including plumbing for the sinks, multiple electrical sockets for the fridges, payment machines and other specialist equipment.
An interesting quality of this bespoke Butchers Pod is its exterior design, the angled canopy gives it a contemporary feel, paired with the decking steps leading to the entrance elongates the feel of the Pod.
A range of cladding was used on the Pod including Cedar, Siberian Larch, Lignia, black weather board and not forgetting Hardie Plank. These were all used for their individual properties and characteristics for example Hardie plank being completely fire retardant and extremely durable but also to add to the contemporary design of the Pod.
Vinyl flooring was used chosen in an oak style finish adding to the neutral interior or the Pod.
The Pod was installed on a bespoke steel frame created by Gedding Mill to make this space completely moveable. It sits on concrete pads for ease of movement should the space ever need to be relocated.
We collaborated with Bespoke Timber Frames and Gedding Mill on this project – two of our trusted Supply Partners, we loved working with them on this contemporary Butchers Pod and are excited to see what the second section of space is soon used for.
